Local partner

WARANKA GR (Valorising and Improving Resources and the Environment in Neighbourhoods) is a local development association based in Pikine, in the suburbs of Dakar, in the Guinaw Rail district. Since its creation in May 2004, it has carried out numerous activities in the fields of health, education and training, and environmental protection.

Context

In Senegal, despite the efforts of the public authorities to increase the educational offer, certain areas have a relatively weak one. This is the case of the municipality of Guinaw Rail Nord, which has insufficient or even non-existent school infrastructure (for middle-secondary education). There is only one public school, college students must study outside the town, in establishments with overcrowded staff (100 students per class). Waranka GR founded an associative school, called “La Grande Royale” in order to fight against school dropout.

The mission

This project is an extension of the Grande Royale in order to improve the educational offer in the municipality of Guinaw Rail and to fight against the risks of school drop-out and insecurity.

Activities

-Build a new college, equip it and recruit qualified personnel.

-Set up student clubs (on the themes: health, living environment and entrepreneurship), activities (socio-educational and sports) and computer courses.

-Enlarge, strengthen La Grande Royale in terms of equipment and teaching aids.

400 students from La Grande Royale school, school teaching staff and middle school teachers
