DEA Kosovo (Democratization – Education – Advocacy) was established in January 2007, in Kosovo, by former employees of PADEM. The DEA association and the partner of PADEM in Kosovo for over ten years.
DEA Kosovo aims to sustainably improve the lives of vulnerable people of his country, to promote equal rights for men and women regardless of nationality, to pay particular attention to property rights of IDPs and the access to education of Roma children and handicapped children.
Kosovo DEA programs are based on the development and practice of participatory methodologies and approaches based on the fundamental rights of men and women in order to transmit the values of solidarity, empathy and democracy in his country and his company.
Context
20 years ago, the war in Kosovo between Albanians and Serbs ended. Since the situation is stable but remains fragile. Children living in northern Kosovo are affected by the clashes that took place in their four municipalities and increasing domestic violence, peer violence or to children. Without proper training, social workers and teachers do not have the ability to prevent such violence and even fewer cases of violations of children’s rights. They lack skills in effect on the recognition and treatment of these facts.
The mission
The project consists of strengthening the promotion and protection of the human rights of children and young people in the municipalities of northern Kosovo by establishing a prevention mechanism against the violation of human rights for young people and children with disabilities.
Activities
- Development, for social service employees, of a human rights-based approach in order to identify and recognize the needs of the most vulnerable groups in their areas of intervention
- Sensitization of children and teachers (certified training) on human rights and the right to education (12 workshops per year in 4 schools in 4 municipalities)
- Organization of inclusive activities every week (sport, song, dance…) for disabled children and young people from the center of Mitrovica and organization of 4 events per year of sharing and reunion with their parents and project stakeholders to share their experiences on disability
