Local partner

The Jappo association was created on December 25, 2005, in Dakar. It is a non-profit association, recognized by the Ministry of the Interior. Jappo Liggeye Thylla is a local development association based in Thylla with headquarters in Dakar. It is mainly composed of natives of Thylla. Its area of intervention is therefore located in Thylla. Its main objectives are to bring together the natives of the village in order to reflect on local development projects in the following areas: health, education, environment and economic development.

Context

Ouarkhokh only has an elementary school and a college located three kilometres away. The lack of school structures is a real factor in school drop-out and illiteracy among children. In addition, agriculture faces a problem of land depletion and lack of water. Faced with these difficulties, women and girls are the most economically and socially vulnerable. This is why, during the last project, a multi-purpose centre for agricultural transformation was built so that they could fully develop their capacities.

The mission

The project aims to ensure the sustainability of the multi-purpose centre and the empowerment of women through the development of their activities in this centre.

Activities

-Build and equip a social nursery where children can be educated in complete safety by trained instructors.

-To sensitize mothers to the various themes affecting mothers’ and children’s health.

-Train the women of the centre in packaging techniques, marketing, commercial techniques, modern sewing techniques, dyeing and screen-printing techniques.

-Acquire raw materials (coffee) and work materials (fabrics) to ensure the proper production of the centre.

-Build a storage warehouse for the conservation of raw materials and production stock.

Beneficiaries

269 children (from 0 to 5 years old) and 200 women and girls who have dropped out of school.
