Local Partner

AAA (Akany Avoko Ambohidratrimo) is an association that opened its center in 1964. Its director, since January 11, 2010, is Mrs. ANDRIANDANJA Lalasoa Maminirina (Nina) who started working in this center 24 years ago, the 14 October 1994, as Social Development Agent.

The center hosts 150 underage children at risk placed by the Children’s Judge (abandoned children, abused children, victims of sexual assault, etc.). The mission of the center is to provide protection, education and / or vocational training, accommodation, food, recreation and health care and hygiene of these children.

The problem

Since 2001, the center no longer receives funding from the Malagasy State. It is fighting to continue the reception and education of each of the 150 children. To meet its financial needs and sustain the association, but also to transmit its values, (to make children actors of a world more energy-efficient and less impacting on its environment) the team of Akany Avoko Ambohidratrimo innovates. Its challenge: to recycle, to become self-sufficient in energy and thus devote exclusively donations and subsidies to school fees and child care.

To achieve the goal it has set for the sustainability of its financing, the center has developed many projects allowing it to significantly reduce its variable costs and tomorrow to become a “center for positive energy” by the resale of its productions created from recycled resources and photovoltaic energy. The center cultivates for example its own fruits and vegetables and has two dairy cows (half of the milk is sold, the other half goes to the children), rainwater is collected, the center has its own solar oven and a wind turbine for a third of its electricity needs etc. Thus, by 2025, funds from sponsorships (permanent funds) will be exclusively dedicated to financing youth education. This project involves allowing the association to ensure this transition.

Objectives/Activities carried out

The overall goal is to care for and ensure a future for the 150 children placed in the AAA center.
