Local partner

ADECOM Network (Animation, Development, Employment and Communication Network) is a non-governmental organization created on 27 January 1992. Its aim is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against oppressed communities – especially Dalit women and children ( “Untouchables”) – and to contribute to their development. To this end, Adecom is carrying out various actions in Pondicherry and in the surrounding villages:

  • Professional training for young people and women so that they can gain access to gainful employment.
  • Theatrical activities, so that oppressed communities can express themselves and encourage change in society.
  • Advocacy campaigns for pro-poor policies and law enforcement.
  • Empowerment of women so that they can advocate and assert their rights.
  • Free legal advice for vulnerable women.

The problem

Active for several years in the districts of Villupuram and Cuddalore, the coordinators of ADECOM Network have seen that many social problems affect children: domestic violence, poverty, child labor, school dropout, etc. In these rural areas, however, there is a lack of social services to help victims and raise awareness of these issues.

Objectives / Activities

This project aims to provide support to children who are victims of abuse, exploitation or discrimination, and to improve the effectiveness of the services and organizations in charge of child protection. Activities put in place:

  • Presence of social workers on the ground daily
  • Construction of 2 centers where social, psychological and legal support services can be provided to children and parents
  • Training, conferences and public campaigns will be provided to improve the quality of public services and local organizations, and to raise awareness of the rights of children.

Beneficiaries

  • Direct beneficiaries: 650 people, children, parents, volunteers and employees of civil society organizations will benefit from this project
  • Indirect Beneficiaries: villagers of Villupuram and Cuddalore
