Education of girls in the slum of Kibera

The issue
- 400.000 people live in Kibera in terrible living conditions
- The population of Kibera does not have access to running water nor to a waste disposal system. Health care and education services are almost inexistent and insecurity is prevalent
- Most teenagers in Kibera have to drop from school around the age of 13 or 14
- 83% of women in Kibera have suffered physical abuse during their childhood and 61% as adults
The beneficiaries
This project is intended for 429 students from the Kibera Grils Soccer Academy including:
- 250 students who benefit from a secondary education
- 144 student who are provided with meals at the schooly
- 100 boys and 100 girls who participate in awareness sessions on gender equality
The activities
This project plans to:
- Improve the quality of education in the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy by providing training to the teachers and offering them better salaries
- Build 3 new classrooms to host more students
- To provide breakfast and lunch for the students
- To raise awareness among teenagers about gender equality
