Local partner
Sambhali Trust is an Indian association fighting for the empowerment of women and girls from the most vulnerable communities of Jodhpur and Setrawa, a rural area of the Thar Desert, through education and vocational training. Sambhali’s programs provide free education in Hindi, English and mathematics, as well as sewing and embroidery classes to develop income-generating skills. The aim of this care is to strengthen the capacity of untouchable women to promote their economic and social integration into Indian society.
The problem
Many children from poor families in Jodhpur and Setrawa do not go to school, or only occasionally. They spend their days on the streets, working or caring for their siblings and housework.

Provide pre-school education for children aged 5 to 12 in 4 centers (3 in Jodhpur and 1 in Setrawa).
Activities carried out
- Basic education in Hindi, English and Math
- Cultural, artistic and sports workshops
- Development of children’s concentration and listening skills so that they can then go on to school and succeed
- Funding by private donors of scholarships for children so that they can enroll in a proper school at the end of the training
